Sports Medicine
Sports medicine, the specialized branch of orthopedic medicine concerned with physical fitness and with the treatment and prevention of sports injuries and disorders related to sports.
Knee, elbow, leg, back, and shoulder joints are more commonly affected in sports injuries also referred as ACL injuries.
Treatment and prevention include exercise programs for increasing strength, flexibility, and endurance; physical therapy; fitness tests; advice concerning nutrition and fluid replacement; and use of protective equipment. Surgery may be needed to treat some injuries.
What is joint Arthroscopy ?
The patient is administered suitable anaesthesia like S.A.,E.A., for knee and hip scopy and G.A. for shoulder scopy after which, a small telescope is introduced into the joint to be examined. A camera attached at the end of this telescope transmits the images on a viewing monitor.
Various procedures are then performed through key holes while viewing the images on the monitor. This surgery are most of the time are stitchless so usually no visible marks of surgery on skin.We usually do recordings of procedures done through arthroscopy and hand over the CDs to patients or relatives on their demand.
Arthroscopy achieve the goals of surgery without “cutting “of soft tissues as compared to conventional open surgery, so pain is very minimal and Recovery is much faster with the earlier return to work with a superior cosmetic result.
