Robotic Knee Replacement Surgery

What is robotic knee replacement surgery?

Robotic knee replacement works much like traditional knee replacement, where the surgeon removes the damaged knee tissue and replaces it with an artificial joint. The main difference is that robotic technology helps the surgeon perform the procedure with greater precision. Using a robotic arm, the surgeon can make more accurate cuts and place the implant in the ideal position. This results in several benefits for the patient, such as better alignment, less pain, faster recovery, and more natural knee movement.

  1. Have less discomfort during and after surgery
  2. Offers Much Faster recovery post-surgery
  3. In-fact patients start walking within hours of the surgery
  4. In a few day’s patient can go about their daily life like before – Painfree
  5. Better aligned Implant offers much better comfort & life to the patient while walking.
  6. By using Golden Knee Implant with this surgery can increase the implant’s life by many fold!
  7. All this at a fraction of the cost of a Robotic Surgery

How do robot-assisted knee replacements work?

  • In Robonavigation, the sensors used in robotic knee replacement such as gyroscopic sensors help accurately align the knee implant according to each patient’s unique anatomy. Since everyone’s knee alignment is different, better matching the implant to the natural alignment leads to improved surgical results and greater long-term comfort for the patient.
  • The process of alignment begins by placing the gyro sensors on Femur (THIGH BONE) and Tibia (LEG BONE). Then the patient’s leg is moved up and down (at the knee). Based on the movement the sensors & a computer program analyze the deformity of the knee joint on a 3-axis plane. Subsequently, calibrating the optimal positioning of the knee implant required. Now, as the knee surgeon replaces the knee the Robo-nav constantly guides the surgeon until the implant is placed at optimal angel & inclination with respect to the patient’s leg.
  • In earlier days the doctors had to use their experience & judgement to align the knee implant. However, with Robo-Nav that guesswork is no longer required and surgeons can place the implant with high precision.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is ACL reconstruction surgery?

Knee replacement is a procedure where a damaged knee joint is replaced with an artificial implant to reduce pain and improve mobility.

It usually takes about 6 to 9 months to return to full activity.

Yes, it’s a key surgery but performed through small cuts using an arthroscope, so recovery is faster.

The cost is around ₹80,000 to ₹2,00,000 depending on hospital and graft type.
