  • FAQ
  • What is minimally invasive total knee replacement surgery?
    • Minimally invasive total knee replacement involves the use of a smaller incision than the one used in traditional knee replacement. In the traditional method, the incision averages 8 to 10 inches in length. In minimally invasive knee surgery, the incision is only 4 to 6 inches long. Because there is less damage to the tissue around the knee, patients who undergo this procedure may expect a shorter hospital stay, a shorter recovery, and a better looking scar.

  • What is partial knee replacement surgery?.
    • Refer to our page

  • How long will I have to stay in the hospital?
    • An important factor in determining your length of stay in the hospital is how well you heal after surgery. Your hospital stay may range from 3 days for one knee/hip and 6-7 days for both knee/hip. Especially our MIS approach of surgery reduces stay in hospital significantly.

  • What happens during knee replacement surgery?
    • During total knee replacement surgery, the surgeon removes damaged knee cartilage. The procedure takes about two hours. The surgeon then inserts new metal and plastic joint surfaces in the knee to improve function and restore alignment.

  • What happens during hip replacement surgery?
    • The hip is essentially a ball-and-socket joint, linking the “ball” at the head of the thigh bone (femur) with the cup-shaped “socket” in the pelvic bone. During total hip replacement, a hip prosthesis is surgically implanted to replace the damaged bone within your hip joint.

  • Is joint replacement surgery permanent?
    • Accurately done joint replacent surgery in elderly patients is almost all the time PERMENANT. However, because more younger people are having joint replacements, and wearing away of the joint surface becomes a problem after 15 to 20 years, revision surgery is becoming more common.

  • Which tests will I need before surgery?
    • All patients are required to have routine blood work and urinalysis within 30 days of surgery, and Dr. Shailendra Patil will perform a physical examination within 15 days of surgery. We do almost all types test as, heart, lungs, kidney, routinue blood test. Elderly patients also requires physician fitness done before surgery. Most preadmission testing can be performed at the Bone and Joint Care centre where you will have your surgery.

  • Is there an age limit for this type of surgery?
    • There is no upper age limit provided you are in reasonable health and have the desire to continue living an active independent life.
